They still exist: the very special places, the breathtaking views, the moments that inspire our desires and dreams. Most of the time they are completely hidden, but sometimes they are also quite open and unmistakable along the way, as for example in the Sauerland.

The first and largest quality region "Wanderbares Deutschland" offers its guests not only a first-class hiking experience with well developed trails, a well thought-out infrastructure and a convincing gastronomic concept. A total of eleven towns have joined together to form the Sauerland hiking villages. And the name says it all, because here everything is prepared for the needs of the hikers and every guest experiences a small piece of home on time.

Hikers should not miss the lookout towers in Winterberg and Hallenberg. It is best to hike along the Winterberg high tour and the Hochsauerland-Kammweg. Besides steep mountain slopes, the tranquillity and the expanse of the landscape are in the foreground here.

The landscape around Lennestadt and Kirchhundem is extremely unspoilt and primeval forest. Up to the horizon, forest, herb and broom groves characterise the landscape, which can be explored particularly beautifully on the Veischede Sun Trail. A completely new forest experience is the quality tour Krenkeltal-und-Goldener-Zapfen. Here the hiker is on a tightrope walk between the Rhine and Weser.

In the Schmallenberg and Eslohe region, one picturesque half-timbered village after another. On the Sauerland high-altitude flight, hikers explore places that welcome their guests with openness, warmth and genuine Sauerland culture. The Schwedensteig-Heidenstraße combines impressive views and charming forest pictures with the typical regional half-timbered architecture.

Two well-known and popular long-distance hiking trails start in Brilon: the Rothaarsteig, which leads in lively ups and downs through one of the most beautiful forest mountain landscapes in Germany, and the - significantly shorter but no less exciting - Briloner Kammweg. On both paths you can reach the Bruchhauser Stones, one of the most striking rock formations in the Sauerland.

Less spectacular but no less important is the water that flows from the countless springs on the forest slopes around Olsberg. Water is also the characteristic element that can be experienced on the Kneipp hiking trail Olsberg - water, hiking, feeling good. And if you want to dive deeper into the mysticism of the forest, you can take the Sauerland Forest Route, which also leads through Olsberg and Brilon.

The mountains around Willingen (Upland) are particularly high. Ettelsberg, neuer Hagen, Kahler Pön - since the Middle Ages, people have formed a landscape on these mountain tops that is unparalleled and therefore also under strict protection. These mountains can all be discovered on the Uplandsteig. And if you are looking for a special combination, you can combine the trail with the Diemelsteig and hike to the Diemelsee.

Lake Diemelsee is a unique jewel of the Sauerland. Nowhere else can hikers look off such steep cliffs, nowhere else is there so much undeveloped nature. And the clean water provides refreshment for tired hikers' legs, especially on warm days.
