Long-distance hikes in the Maerkischer Kreis

The Wupper Trail takes us mostly along the course of the river Wupper. We experience nature and culture of a special kind.

Even the Romans used the Plackweg to transport their goods through the Arnsberg Forest. Even today, we can still see traces of the old trade route on the hiking trail maintained by the Sauerland Mountain Association. It leads for long stretches along the ridge of the Plackweghöhe, which is up to 581 m high, and therefore has some challenging climbs in store for us - but for which we are rewarded with magnificent views, impressive castles, large caves and mysterious monasteries.

The Sauerland-Höhenflug takes you from Altena and Meinerzhagen to Korbach in Hesse – across the hiking region of Sauerland. 250 fascinating, athletic and impressive kilometers on top of the mountain ridge of the highlands await to be discovered.

The Ruhr Heights Trail follows the course of the Ruhr from its source near Winterberg to where it flows into the Rhine in Duisburg. For the most part, we do not hike directly along the banks, but on the ridges on both sides of the river from the Rothaargebirge mountains to the Lower Rhine in the Ruhr region.
