For centuries, the Upper Castle was the residence of the Nassau sovereigns. Since 1905 it has been home to the Siegerland Museum of Art and Regional History.
Siegen made easy: This offer is barrier-free and has only minor differences in altitude
The economic history collection with evidence of tradition in ore mining and smelting works, the Oraniersaal (Hall of Orange) with its portraits of the ruling family and, above all, the Rubens Gallery with original paintings by the Baroque painter are all well worth seeing.
Many facets of the history of Siegen are revealed during a walk through gardens which surround the castle. Not only the history of the castle itself, but topics such as Rubens’ birth in Siegen, the medieval court system and the early influence the smelting works and hammer mills had on the valleys are discussed and explained. The variety of plants makes the gardens a worthwhile destination at any time of the year.
Duration: approx. 2 hours
