Underground defence system "Kasematten" (casemates)
The dimensions of the Dillenburg defensive system on the Schlossberg hill are unique in Germany as an underground defensive system with bulwarks and casemates from the 15th / 16th century. They were only partially uncovered again in the last century and today give the visitor an idea of the size of a complex that in times of war was used by more than 2,000 soldiers to defend the castle.
I was able to record. The highlight and conclusion of a guided tour through Dillenburg's "Underworld" is a visit to the 62 metre deep well in the "Lion's Pit" and the "Rubens Prison".
