One of the most important defensive towers in Mallorca due to its age, good state of preservation and wonderful views.
The Tower of Canyamel was designed as a defence and watchtower for the local population. Since 2009, it has served as a museum and centre for events and art exhibitions.
It is one of the most important defensive towers in Mallorca. It is of Moorish origin and its development dates back to the conquest of Mallorca by Jaime I (13th century)
.The tower was built for surveillance and as a refuge from the frequent attacks of the corsairs and invaders. It consists of three floors and a central fortress tower 23 metres high. It is an excellent vantage point overlooking the bay of Canyamel and a large part of the municipal areas of Capdepera, Artà and Son Servera.
It is a very interesting place to visit.
After the introduction of sugar cane cultivation (second half of the 15th century), the name of the building was changed from its original one (Torre d'en Montsó) to the current one.
