  • In front of the Information Center entrance there are four marked parking spaces for people with disabilities (parking space size: 350 cm x 500 cm; distance to entrance approx. 100 m).
  • The surface of the walkway from the car park (you have to cross a street with traffic lights) and the public transport bus stop to the entrance is easy to walk and drive on. In summer there are seatings available at the bus stop.
  • The access to the Information Center is stepless.
  • The main entrance to the education center is accessible through the Information Center by stairs. Alternatively it is accessible via a ramp (5 % gradient) and a lift (lift cabin 109 cm x 140 cm).
  • All evaluated rooms available to the guest are at ground level or accessible by lift. In the Information Center there are ramps with 5 % gradient. The elevator car in the Information Center is 110 cm x 140 cm (width x depth).
  • Doors are at least 90 cm wide, passages are usually wider.
  • The cash desk counter in the Information Center is 85 cm high at the lowest point.
  • The exhibits and objects in the Information and Education Center and on the panorama paths are predominately visible while standing and sitting.
  • In the restaurant "Spiesbergers Alpenküche" in the Information Center there are wheelchair accessible tables.
  • Guided tours for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users are offered. 
  • Special trained guides make sure that guests with walking disabilities and wheelchair users can take part in any guided tour. The Information Center and the Education Center are steplessly accessible for wheelchair users.
  • Most outdoor paths of the Education Center are not easy to walk or drive on. There is the possibility of a shuttle service.

Public toilets for people with disabilities

  • The manoeuvring spaces in the Information Center are as follows:
    • near the toilets (width x depth): right 98 cm x 70 cm, left no manoeuvring space; or right no manoeuvring space, left 98 cm x 70 cm;
    • in front of the toilet, washbasin and door: at least 150 cm x 150 cm.
  • The manoeuvring spaces in the Educational Center are as follows:
    • near the toilet (width x depth): right 95 cm x 69 cm, left 86 cm x 69 cm;
    • in front of the toilet, washbasin and door: at least 150 cm x 150 cm.
  • There are handrails available, the handrails can be folded up on the accessible side of the toilets.
  • The washbasin in the Information Center is wheelchair accessible and the mirrors can be seen while standing or sitting. In the Educational Center, the washbasin is only accessible to a limited extent.

  • There is an audio induction loop at the cash desk and in the conference room.
  • An audible alarm is confirmed by a visibly perceptible flashing signal.
  • In the lifts, the confirmation of an emergency call is audible. 
  • The restaurant "Spiesbergers Alpenküche" in the Information Center has tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that restrict the field of vision. There are tables with low background noises.
  • An electroacoustic sound system can be switched off or controlled.
  • Guided tours are offered for people with hearing disabilities and deaf people.
  • Sign language interpreters can be organised.

  • External paths mainly are rich in contrast or tactilely detectable sidewalk boundaries.
  • The entrances to the information and education center are visually rich in contrast and can be recognised by a tactile change in the floor covering.
  • The house signage is designed in clearly legible, contrasting font.
  • Glass doors are usually provided with safety markings.
  • There are no revolving or rotating doors.
  • Rooms and corridors are brightly lit.
  • There are no obstacles, e.g. objects protruding into the path/room.
  • Information is available in Braille or prismatic writing.
  • A uninterrupted guidance system is available in the Information Center at the main exhibition.
  • An emergency call is confirmed audibly in the elevator.
  • Staircases are partly designed with visual or tactile rich contrasting edges . Handrails are available, these have tactile information about the floor at the beginning and end of the staircases.
  • The menu of the restaurant "Spiesbergers Alpenküche" in the Information Center is not in plain and contrasting typeface. There is no menu available in large print.
  • The exhibits are generally well illuminated. The information on the exhibits is visually rich in contrast.
  • Guided tours for visually impaired and blind people are offered. During the guided tours, exhibits can be detected tactilely. 
  • Special trained guides make sure that visually impaired guests and blind guests can take part in any guided tour and their concerns are dealt with.
  • An audio guide is available that can be operated independently by visually impaired people and by blind people.
