Experience a chapter of the local and economic history of the Upper District of Altenkirchen in the Museum der Stadt Kirchen (Sieg) as a museum of cultural and industrial history. Exhibition areas on Hauberg, agriculture as well as house and yard illustrate the hard work of our ancestors, the hardship of everyday life on the basis of numerous tools and devices that are now often unknown. The brewery, tannery, brickworks and sawmill, the numerous mines, but above all the Friedrichshütte in Wehbach and the Arnold Jung Lokomotivfabrik, where machine tools of world renown were later built, gave people work beyond the region.

Experience a chapter of the local and economic history of the Upper District of Altenkirchen in the Museum der Stadt Kirchen (Sieg) as a museum of cultural and industrial history. Since 1984, Kirchener citizens have been dealing with the past of their town and its surroundings in a variety of ways in the Heimatverein Kirchen and have collected an extensive treasure trove of photos, documents and historical objects, most of which can be seen in the museum reopened in 2005 - after a long reconstruction phase. The museum is divided into several thematic areas. The exhibition areas on Hauberg, agriculture as well as house and yard illustrate the hard work of our ancestors, the hardship of everyday life with the help of numerous tools and devices that are now often unknown. The brewery, tannery, brickworks and sawmill, the numerous mines, but above all the Friedrichshütte in Wehbach and the Arnold Jung locomotive factory, in which world-famous machine tools were later built, gave people work beyond the region. A simple kitchen-living room and an exclusive living room as well as a lovingly furnished bedroom provide insights into living 100 years ago. The wedding dress made of parachute silk from the later days of the war always attracts special attention. The history of the districts can be found in a large exhibition.

The last manufactured compressed air locomotive of the locomotive factory A. Jung and a fully functional light railway locomotive remind of the industrial history of the place beside an old cast pan in the outside area. The Kirchener Heimattag, which takes place every year on the second Sunday in September, is an attraction for young and old.

The museum is open on the first three Sundays of the month from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and by arrangement.
