Routes in the Ruhr area

The Wupper Trail takes us mostly along the course of the river Wupper. We experience nature and culture of a special kind.

The Wuppertal-Aachen Way of St. James leads pilgrims from the Wuppertal district of Beyenburg via Cologne to the German-Belgian border near Aachen.

The beautiful „Stadt-Land-Fluss“-Radtour takes us through the Ruhr region. We start in Helge Schneider's birthplace Mülheim and cycle on through Essen, Werden and Kettwig – always down the Ruhr, along Lake Baldeney and through lots of greenery.

Even the Romans used the Plackweg to transport their goods through the Arnsberg Forest. Even today, we can still see traces of the old trade route on the hiking trail maintained by the Sauerland Mountain Association. It leads for long stretches along the ridge of the Plackweghöhe, which is up to 581 m high, and therefore has some challenging climbs in store for us - but for which we are rewarded with magnificent views, impressive castles, large caves and mysterious monasteries.

On the Osnabrück-Wuppertal Way of St. James, we make a pilgrimage right across Westphalia. After crossing the Teutoburg Forest, we walk through the flat Münsterland region to the eastern Ruhr area. Here we cross the Ruhr and reach our destination in Wuppertal-Beyenburg via the hills of the Bergisches Land.

Two lakes and the Ruhr

Biking from castle to castle: The 135 km-long bike tour includes numerous beautiful castles and palaces. The route leads through the beautiful parkland of Münsterland and past architectural treasures.

The Count Engelbert Trail is one of the most important northern Süd routes through the Bergisches Land and leads the hiker in the footsteps of Count Engelbert in six day stages from Hattingen on the Ruhr to Schladern.
