Hachenburger Westerwald: a very varied round trip

I choose Hachenburg as my starting point and destination, drive north from the train station and come across the Konrad Adenauer memorial plaque in Nistertal. The later Federal Chancellor once hid here from the Gestapo. A little to the west is the Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt with its beautiful Gothic basilica. A little further I visit the Bach nature trail and the village museum of Limbach. When I arrive in Stein-Wingert, I consider trying one of the many delicacies in the old mill. Again and again I am inspired by the beautiful nature and the wide views. Passing the Dreifelder Weiher, the route now leads to the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Dreifelden, the oldest stone church in the Westerwald. The Wied, the longest river in the Westerwald, rises under a beech tree in Linden. Passing the Alpenroder Hütte and the lookout tower on the Gräbersberg, I drive past the Böhmsfund kaolin mine, an idyllic lake with a picnic table on the east bank to take a break. Finally, the landscape museum, the castle garden and the beautiful old market with its red-brown half-timbered facades, numerous shops, inns and cafés await me in Hachenburg for sightseeing.
